El-Rufai Remains in ICPC Custody Amid Corruption Probe

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is anticipated to spend a second night in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) as investigations into alleged financial misconduct continue. The ICPC has not confirmed the release of El-Rufai, who was detained following a standard procedure related to inquiries into his financial records and contracts during his administration from 2015 to 2023.

Earlier in the week, El-Rufai had been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and spent two nights at their headquarters in Abuja undergoing questioning regarding financial improprieties linked to his tenure. Although he was granted administrative bail, he was subsequently taken into custody by the ICPC in connection with a separate probe.

This development has drawn attention from the Department of State Services (DSS) following El-Rufai's comments about alleged unlawful phone interceptions related to national security, which have triggered separate cybercrime charges filed in a Federal High Court in Abuja.
