El-Rufai's Allies Urge Tinubu to Intervene in Legal Issues

Supporters of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in El-Rufai's legal challenges, which include a court trial related to allegations of corruption. El-Rufai was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for three days on February 16, facing accusations of corrupt practices.

Upon his release, he was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) on ten counts of corruption. During a press briefing in Abuja, a representative, Diala, argued that El-Rufai's continued detention raises serious constitutional concerns and threatens public trust in institutions.

The group emphasized the need for judicial independence and urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria to ensure that judicial processes are not manipulated for political ends. They highlighted the importance of protecting fundamental human rights, including free speech and political association, and called for an end to unlawful detentions.
