Dalung Claims El-Rufai's Detention is Political Persecution

Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has publicly supported former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, asserting that El-Rufai's continued detention is a form of persecution rather than a legitimate legal process. Dalung, a politician from Plateau State, emphasized that El-Rufai's situation reflects selective justice and a lack of due process.

El-Rufai is facing nine corruption charges stemming from his tenure as governor from May 2015 to May 2023. On April 13, 2023, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) arraigned him with nine amended corruption charges.

However, on April 14, Judge Rilwanu Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Kaduna granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of N200 million, with two sureties as part of the conditions. El-Rufai has denied the charges against him, describing his arrest and detention as politically motivated persecution.
