El-Rufai's Detention Linked to Mother's Death, Says Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claimed that the detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai led to the death of El-Rufai's mother. He recounted that El-Rufai was detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) due to allegations of corruption and was subsequently arraigned before the Kaduna State High Court, where he was later granted bail.

Okonkwo expressed that the emotional distress caused by the detention, especially at the age of 90, was significant for El-Rufai's mother. He emphasized that the situation was exacerbated by the perception of her son being labeled a thief, which deeply affected her.

Okonkwo also criticized the judiciary for releasing El-Rufai without a court order, suggesting that this reflects a disregard for judicial processes. His comments were made during an interview on Symponi TV, where he discussed the implications of the case on the judiciary.
