Doctor Confesses to Authorship of El-Rufai's Medical Report

Dr. Bello Abubakar, a Chief Consultant Clinical and Radiation Oncologist at the National Hospital, Abuja, has confessed to preparing a medical report that supported former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s bail application.

However, he denied any involvement in a conspiracy to forge or falsify records. Abubakar submitted a statement to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) amid an investigation into the report, which is dated June 10, 2026.

The ICPC accused him of issuing a false medical report intended to influence official actions related to El-Rufai's legal proceedings. Abubakar stated he has no connection with Mohammed Bala Aliyu, who allegedly used the report for an affidavit in El-Rufai’s bail application.

He acknowledged a long-standing professional relationship with El-Rufai, having treated him multiple times since 2005, including three consultations in June and July 2026 while El-Rufai was in ICPC custody.
