ICPC Accuses El-Rufai of Court Order Breach, Arrests Doctor

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has accused former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of violating court-approved conditions for a medical visit while in custody. The commission announced the arrest of El-Rufai's personal physician, Professor Bello Abubakar, for allegedly making false statements.

ICPC spokesperson John Odei stated that El-Rufai's medical visit was facilitated in compliance with court directives, emphasizing the commission's obligation to respect the rights and welfare of individuals in custody. The Kaduna State High Court has scheduled an accelerated hearing for criminal charges against El-Rufai for July 6-8, 2026.

El-Rufai failed to appear for the initial proceedings, and the court declined to allow his physician to accompany him. The ICPC later discovered that photographs of El-Rufai's political associates were posted on social media during the medical consultation, indicating a breach of the court order.

The ICPC has warned against any abuse of goodwill and will bring attention to any flagrant disobedience of court orders.
