ICPC Arrests El-Rufai's Doctor for Court Violation

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) announced the arrest of Professor Bello Abubakar, the personal physician of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, for allegedly making false statements related to a medical visit. This visit was approved by the Kaduna State High Court, which scheduled a hearing for el-Rufai's criminal charges on July 6, 2026.

The ICPC claimed that during the approved medical visit at a private hospital in Abuja, el-Rufai received unauthorized visitors, including political associates, which violated court orders. The commission stated that no prior request was made for consultations during the visit.

El-Rufai's wife, Asia el-Rufai, and his legal representatives sought to consult with his physician, leading to an adjournment of the case until July 15, 2026. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) criticized the ICPC's actions, alleging violations of constitutional rights and calling el-Rufai a political prisoner under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
