Okonkwo Claims El-Rufai's Detention Caused Mother's Death

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, has alleged that the emotional turmoil stemming from the detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai contributed to the death of El-Rufai's mother. Okonkwo made these claims in response to the circumstances surrounding El-Rufai's detention and subsequent release by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission.

El-Rufai was previously detained on allegations of corruption during his time in office and was later arraigned in the Kaduna State High Court, where he was granted bail. Following his release, El-Rufai's mother passed away, and Okonkwo spoke during an interview on Symponi TV, asserting that the emotional impact of El-Rufai's detention likely led to her death.

He emphasized that elderly individuals are particularly vulnerable to emotional distress, which can have severe consequences. Okonkwo also criticized the ruling party, the Progressives Congress, for allegedly manipulating the judiciary in relation to El-Rufai's case.
