El-Rufai's Health Concerns Raised Amid Detention Issues

Nasir El-Rufai, a prominent political figure, is currently in detention under the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since February 16, 2026. His aide, Adekey El-Rufai, reported that he suffered a nosebleed during detention and that his wife was prevented from delivering meals directly to him, as EFCC officials required meals to be handed over to them first.

His legal team has expressed concerns regarding his health and access to family and legal counsel. On February 18, El-Rufai was transferred to EFCC custody without prior notice to his legal team.

They have applied for bail from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) but have yet to receive a response. The legal team argues that there has been no remand order justifying his continued detention beyond the constitutionally permitted period.

El-Rufai is scheduled to appear in court on February 25, where his legal representatives will enforce his fundamental rights against the federal government, ICPC, and EFCC.
