Rivers State By-elections Face Voter Apathy and Low Turnout

Rivers State held by-elections in two constituencies, Ahoada East and Khana, on an unspecified date, amid high levels of voter apathy and low turnout. The elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the resignation of lawmaker Edison Ehi and the death of Dinebari Loolo.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara directed the state's residents, particularly eligible voters, to actively participate in the elections. He described the elections as a family affair and urged peaceful conduct throughout the process.

The state police command, represented by spokesperson CSP Grace Iring Koko, promised adequate security during the elections. Reports indicated a calm atmosphere with minimal security presence.

APC candidate Napoleon Ukalikp expressed satisfaction with the turnout in Ogbel town, while former Deputy Speaker Chibudom Nwuch noted low voter turnout in some areas. Overall, the election process was described as smooth and orderly, with no reported incidents of violence.
