ADC Critiques Akpabio on Electoral Act Amendments

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned comments made by Godswill Akpabio concerning the Electoral Act, particularly the 2026 amendments that they argue weaken the integrity of Nigeria's electoral process. ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the law, which allows for less stringent challenges to election results based on certificate forgery, undermines democracy and sends a troubling message to the youth of Nigeria.

Abdullahi highlighted that the amendments contradict existing constitutional provisions that disqualify individuals presenting forged certificates. He criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for attempting to protect dishonest practices rather than fostering accountability.

The ADC called for a credible political alternative to restore integrity in governance, asserting that the current legislative actions reflect a compromise of the nation's ethical standards and a detrimental legacy for Nigeria's democracy.
