Electricity Workers Commence Nationwide Strike Over Unresolved Disputes

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) initiated a nationwide indefinite strike due to unresolved welfare and operational disputes with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The strike, which began on September 24, followed the expiration of an ultimatum issued to TCN management.

NUEE cited grievances such as issues related to the national minimum wage, casualization of staff, unpaid salaries since April 2025, lack of operational vehicles, protective equipment, and retirement benefits. The union accused TCN management of neglecting staff welfare and failing to address these critical issues, leading to the industrial action that impacts the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
