Cory Mills Loses Florida Primary to Ryan Elijah

Republican Representative Cory Mills suffered a significant loss in the Florida primary on Tuesday night, falling to political newcomer Ryan Elijah, a former television journalist. Mills, facing multiple ethics probes and negative publicity, failed to secure his party’s nomination in Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

Despite receiving an endorsement from Donald Trump, Mills could not overcome the challenges posed by ongoing legal and ethics troubles, including a House Ethics Committee probe into personal misconduct and campaign finance irregularities, as well as a Justice Department investigation into his financial dealings. Local Republican leaders, including Anna Paulina Luna and Mike Haridopolos, publicly endorsed Elijah, emphasizing the need for integrity in public office.

Mills' fundraising struggles, with under $900,000 raised by late July, limited his campaign's competitiveness. This primary loss signals a shift in voter expectations regarding accountability and ethical conduct, as Florida voters opted for a candidate with a disciplined campaign.

Ryan Elijah will represent the Republicans in the upcoming general election against Democratic nominee Bale Dalton.
