Eminent Africans Demand Release of Guinea-Bissau Election Results for Restoring Democracy

A group of 20 eminent Africans, including former President Pedro Pires and ex-Foreign Minister João Brito, have demanded the immediate release of the Guinea-Bissau election results. They called for the protection of the election winner and the release of political actors detained by the military junta.

The joint statement also urged the restoration of constitutional order and the rule of law in Guinea-Bissau, emphasizing the need for transparency and respect for democratic principles. The group condemned the recent coup in the country and called for urgent action to address the crisis.

ECOWAS and other civil society organizations across Africa have joined in the call for justice and democracy in Guinea-Bissau.
