Tinubu Advocates for UN Reform and Africa's Inclusion

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, addressing the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, emphasized the need for significant reforms within the United Nations, particularly the Security Council. He insisted that Africa should be granted at least two permanent seats, complete with rights, responsibilities, and veto power, as well as five non-permanent seats.

Tinubu articulated that the current global power distribution, established in 1945, is outdated and that Africa should no longer be sidelined in global governance. He urged world leaders to end global warfare and reject rising nationalism, stressing the importance of restoring trust in international institutions.

He reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to the UN Charter, advocating for diplomacy over coercion and cooperation over isolation. Additionally, he highlighted Nigeria's readiness to enhance its peacekeeping role in Africa, referencing past contributions in countries like Liberia and Sierra Leone.
