Engineer Arrested After Abuja Building Collapse Tragedy

An engineer associated with the recent building collapse in Abuja has been arrested as part of an investigation into the incident that claimed the lives of five individuals. The Minister, Wike, described the situation as tragic and emphasized that the government would not compromise on safety standards for residents.

He announced the establishment of a panel to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse. The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) is conducting preliminary investigations while awaiting the panel's findings.

Wike warned developers against obstructing officials and highlighted the importance of adhering to building regulations, including soil tests and the use of quality materials, to prevent future disasters. He expressed concern over developers resorting to blackmail whenever government agencies enforce compliance with building standards, reiterating the government's primary responsibility to protect lives and property.
