Eno Grants Employment to Akwa Ibom Commonwealth Medalists

On Thursday, during the official lighting of the Torch of Unity for the 2026 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival at Government House, Uyo, Governor Pastor Umo Eno announced that three Akwa Ibom athletes who won medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, would receive automatic employment in the state civil service. The athletes honored are Edidiong Umoafia, who won a gold medal in weightlifting; Ruth Nyong, who secured a silver medal in weightlifting; and Enku Ekuta, who earned a bronze medal in judo.

Governor Eno commended the athletes for their hard work, discipline, and dedication, which he described as the foundation of their success. He instructed Elder Paul Bassey, the Commissioner for Sports Development, to arrange a formal recognition during the festival's opening ceremony on September 22, 2026, and directed the Head of the State Civil Service to finalize their employment and assign them to the Ministry of Sports Development.

This initiative reflects Governor Eno’s commitment to promoting sporting excellence and youth empowerment in Akwa Ibom.
