APC Rejects Akwa Ibom Speaker's Third-Term Aspirations

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State have formally rejected the third-term bid of Hon. Udem Otong, the current Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

During a press briefing held in Abak, party leaders passed a vote of no confidence against Otong, citing breaches of trust and allegations of political misconduct. The stakeholders, led by spokesperson Hon.

Rock Dick, expressed their frustration, describing Otong's actions as a betrayal of a sacrificial pact outlined in a 2023 agreement brokered by former Deputy Governor Mose Ekpo. This document clearly states that the state assembly seat should rotate among clans to prevent dominance by any one area.

The stakeholders emphasized that Otong, as a primary signatory to the agreement, has disregarded the moral political contract meant to maintain peace and unity among different clans. They reiterated their commitment to uphold the rotational zoning formula and declared that they would protect its sanctity to ensure equitable political representation in the Abak constituency.
