NANS to Protest Over Abduction of Oyo Students, Teachers

The Nigerian Students Association (NANS), led by President Akintey Babatunde, has declared a solidarity protest in Oyo State on June 1, 2026, in response to the abduction of 39 students and 7 teachers from Community High School Ahoro Esiel and Yawota Baptist Nursery Primary School in Oriir Local Government Area. The protest follows a two-week period during which the victims remained captive without successful rescue efforts.

Akintey described the situation as painful and unacceptable, emphasizing that Nigerian students can no longer remain silent. The protest will involve visits to the affected schools and a peaceful walk in Ibadan, demanding stronger security measures and immediate rescue operations.

NANS also plans to engage with the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services during the protest. The abduction, which included the killing of teacher Michael Oyedokun and the kidnapping of two-year-old Christianah Akanbi, has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for action against the escalating insecurity affecting educational institutions.
