Amnesty International Demands Probe into Dadiyata's Disappearance

Amnesty International has called on the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to conduct a credible investigation into the enforced disappearance of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, who was abducted on August 2, 2019, in Kaduna State. The organization welcomed Disu's directive issued on May 8, 2026, to investigate the case, which follows a petition alleging the involvement of two serving police officers.

The petition, filed by human rights lawyer Abba Fagg, demands an independent probe into the allegations made by former senior special assistant to the ex-Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, regarding threats made during Dadiyata's detention. Amnesty International emphasized the need for a prompt, impartial, and transparent investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding Dadiyata's disappearance.

The organization reiterated its call for the protection of all individuals linked to the case and for the Nigerian government to address broader issues of enforced disappearances in the country.
