Enugu State Disowns Illegal Levy on Traditional Healers

The Enugu State Government has officially distanced itself from an illegal levy being imposed on traditional medicine practitioners by a group that falsely claims to act on behalf of the state. On Tuesday, a statement was issued by Onyekwer Nwobodo, the special adviser to Governor Peter Mbah, alerting the public to the unwholesome activities of individuals harassing practitioners to collect unauthorized fees.

Nwobodo emphasized that the group lacks official accreditation and is not recognized by the state government. He clarified that existing laws in Enugu State require traditional medicine practitioners to register and obtain certification through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Furthermore, Nwobodo reported that members of the group have already been apprehended and are facing prosecution in court for their actions. He urged the public, particularly traditional medicine practitioners, to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unauthorized groups.
