Enugu State Suspends Tolls for Poor Traders Immediately

On Tuesday, the Enugu State Government announced an immediate suspension of toll collection from poor traders, including petty traders, pure water sellers, vegetable sellers, and hawkers. This decision was made in response to complaints received from traditional rulers and local government chairmen regarding the adverse effects of the tolls on these traders.

Prof. Chidieber Onyia, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, communicated this decision during a stakeholders' meeting held at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu.

The governor directed the implementation of this suspension through a task force that will operate at the local government level. The toll, which was set at N200 per day for traders, will no longer be collected, allowing traders to operate without the burden of these fees.

The governor's directive aligns with the state's tax law, emphasizing the need to support local traders in light of the outcry from citizens.
