Enugu Governor Mbah Abolishes Daily Market Tolls

On Tuesday, Governor Dr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State announced the indefinite suspension of daily market toll collections, labeling them illegal and a source of hardship for residents.

This decision was made during a meeting with stakeholders to clarify revenue collection processes across the state. The Enugu State Police Command has since arraigned two individuals, Mr.

Christoph Ifeanyi and Chineny Ugwu, in an Enugu North Magistrate Court for allegedly collecting illegal revenue and forging receipts. They face multiple charges, including conspiracy and theft, with the total amount involved being N700,000.

Governor Mbah emphasized that any individual caught collecting daily tolls would face severe legal consequences. He also instructed local government chairmen and traditional rulers to ensure compliance with this directive, aiming to protect traders from undue financial burdens.
