BEDC Blames Power Supply Issues on National Grid Decline

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has expressed concerns regarding the sharp decline in power supply attributed to a significant reduction in national grid generation, which has decreased to 3,940 megawatts. Mr.

Ogunley Akinley, the Chief Commercial Officer of BEDC, disclosed this information to journalists in Benin City, Edo State. The decline in power generation has negatively impacted electricity supply across the country, including BEDC's franchise areas, leading to a weakened revenue performance for the company.

Akinley explained that the poor power supply has resulted in reduced customer willingness to pay electricity bills, causing a decline in post-paid collections and affecting prepaid vending. This situation has made it challenging for BEDC to meet its operational expenditures.

The company has appealed to customers in its franchise states—Edo, Delta, Ondo, and Ekiti—to remain patient as the federal government and stakeholders work to address the ongoing power generation challenges.
