Arsenal's Saliba Faces Extended Injury Layoff

Arsenal defender William Saliba will be out for an extended period due to a back injury he aggravated while on international duty with France during the FIFA World Cup. The 25-year-old centre-back had been managing the injury for several weeks before the tournament but worsened it during France’s semi-final defeat to Spain, where he left the pitch after just 30 minutes.

Following his return to London, Saliba was assessed by a specialist, and Arsenal confirmed that surgery will not be necessary. Instead, he will begin a managed rehabilitation program.

His injury also prevented him from participating in France’s third-place play-off against England. Saliba had previously mentioned playing through pain to support both club and country, stating he had minor niggles for months.

His absence is a significant setback for Arsenal, as he was a key player last season, making 50 appearances. He is expected to miss the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 16 and the Premier League opener against Coventry City on August 21.
