Chelsea, West Ham Fined £625,000 After Brawl Incident

Chelsea FC and West Ham United have been fined a combined total of £625,000 due to a brawl that occurred during their Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on January 21. Chelsea was fined £325,000, while West Ham was fined £300,000.

The confrontation erupted in the 95th minute when Chelsea forward João Pedro reacted to a shove from West Ham winger Adama Traoré. Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella became involved, leading to a mass confrontation that included several players.

Referee Anthony Taylor dismissed West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo after a lengthy VAR review, which noted his violent conduct. The Football Association stated that Chelsea failed to ensure their players behaved properly, while West Ham also admitted to charges of improper conduct.

The independent regulatory commission described the incident as serious, highlighting that multiple Chelsea players sought to incite the crowd during the altercation. The commission noted that Todibo's red card was upheld, and while no other West Ham players were found guilty of violent conduct, their behavior contributed to the unsightly incident.
