Rio Ferdinand Praises Mason Mount Ahead of New Season

Rio Ferdinand, a Manchester United icon, has praised midfielder Mason Mount for his performances during the club's pre-season tour ahead of the 2026-27 season. Mount transferred to Manchester United from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of £55 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.

Despite the high transfer cost, Mount's time at Old Trafford has been disappointing, with only seven goals and two assists in 72 appearances across all competitions, hindered by injuries that have sidelined him for nearly 70 matches since 2023. However, he has participated in all three of Manchester United's pre-season friendlies, showcasing commendable performances.

Ferdinand took to social media to express his admiration, stating, “Mason Mount looking sharp btw.” This summer, Manchester United has strengthened its midfield with significant signings, including Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48 million plus £2 million in add-ons and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35 million. Mount will face considerable competition for a starting position.
