Following a pre-season draw with Gateshead, Howe stated that he has had several positive conversations with Guimarães but could not guarantee his future at the club.

He emphasized Guimarães' significance, describing him as an "unbelievable player and person" and stated that the club's position remains unchanged, expressing that everyone at Newcastle wants him to stay. Howe clarified that he is not directly involved in discussions regarding Guimarães' future and noted that speculation is outside his control.

Guimarães is currently on holiday after Brazil's exit from the World Cup and is expected to return to Newcastle on Friday for pre-season training in Spain. Howe dismissed comparisons to Alexander Isak's departure, indicating no signs that Guimarães would not return for pre-season.
