Residents Demand Action Over Prolonged Power Outages

Residents of Forthright Garden Estate in Magboro, Ogun State, have expressed their frustration over ongoing power outages that have lasted for weeks, demanding a resolution from the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC). The estate's chairman, Mr.

Adenola Quadri, stated that residents are entitled to 12 to 16 hours of daily power supply but have been left in darkness, with only brief interruptions of electricity. He criticized IKEDC for consistently blaming the Akute feeder for the outages, describing the explanation as unacceptable and indicative of systemic neglect.

Residents have reported significant social and economic impacts, including financial strain from reliance on alternative power sources and losses incurred from spoiled food and disrupted studies. They have called on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and civil society groups to intervene.

Mr. Sote, a resident, highlighted the severe challenges faced by families, particularly those with newborns, due to the lack of power.

IKEDC spokesperson Kingsley Okoti stated that they would consult relevant quarters regarding the issue.
