EU Ambassador Promotes Nigeria-EU Science Cooperation

On a recent Science Innovation Day held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, Gautier Mignot, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, presented a strategic framework aimed at deepening Nigeria-EU cooperation in science and innovation. Mignot emphasized the importance of co-creation and joint ownership in the partnership, rather than merely transferring knowledge.

He highlighted the role of science and innovation in addressing critical challenges such as food security, digital connectivity, and climate resilience. The event featured discussions on enhancing institutional partnerships and strengthening Nigeria's innovation system, with contributions from Nienk Buisman, Director of International Cooperation in Research and Innovation at the European Commission.

Buisman noted Nigeria's leading role in Africa's participation in EU research and innovation programs. Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to international research collaboration.

The event also aimed to facilitate policy dialogue and foster partnerships between Nigerian and European stakeholders.
