EU and PLAC Urge Nigerian Youths for Accountability

The European Union Delegation to Nigeria and the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) called on Nigerian youths to demand transparency and accountability from public institutions during a Model Legislative Assembly Session held in Abuja. Laolu Olawumi, Programme Manager for Democracy, Rule of Law and Gender at the EU Delegation, stated that Nigeria’s democracy can only deepen when young people insist on accountable governance at all levels.

She emphasized that the internship program is designed not just to produce future politicians but to cultivate informed citizens who understand governance. Olawumi encouraged participants to use their knowledge to educate their communities about governance processes and to continue holding institutions accountable.

Clement Nwankwo, Executive Director of PLAC, noted that the internship provided insights into lawmaking, representation, and the operations of the National Assembly, equipping participants to engage with leadership effectively. The Clerk of the National Assembly acknowledged the PLAC legislative internship as a key platform for developing young professionals in legislative practice and democratic institutions.
