Ex-Benue Assembly Speaker suspended 24 hours after resignation

The former Speaker of the Benue Assembly, Titus Uba, was suspended just 24 hours after his resignation. The decision was made during a plenary session presided over by the new Speaker, Alfred Emberga.

Uba was accused of plotting to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia, leading to his suspension. The motion for suspension was moved by Emmanuel Shimawua and seconded by Abu Umoru.

Additionally, the Assembly confirmed the leadership of Timothy Ornguga and James Dwen, who were earlier rejected by Uba. The suspension was approved by Governor Alia.

The Assembly has been embroiled in political turmoil, with several lawmakers allegedly involved in a conspiracy to remove the former Speaker. The lifting of the suspension by 23 lawmakers, including the Deputy Speaker, indicates a shift in the political landscape of the state.
