How Emberga emerged Benue Assembly’s new speaker

Emberga emerged as the new Speaker of the Benue State Assembly following the resignation of former Speaker Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh. The Clerk of the House read Dajoh's resignation letter during an emergency sitting, where Douglas Ackya nominated Emberga for the position.

The Assembly had previously suspended four members, including the new Speaker, for three months over an alleged conspiracy to remove Dajoh. However, 21 lawmakers, including the Deputy Speaker, lifted the suspension to accommodate the emergency session.

Emberga, in his acceptance speech, pledged to uphold the integrity of the House and work harmoniously with the executive arm of the government. The resignation of Dajoh was linked to an alleged plan to unseat him, which was reportedly hatched at the Government House in Makurdi.

Governor Alia denied any involvement in the attempt to impeach Dajoh and reiterated his respect for the rule of law and separation of powers.
