Ex-APC Chairman Alphonsu Eba Joins PDP Amid Crisis

Alphonsu Eba, the immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has officially resigned from the party and returned to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Eba's resignation follows a prolonged leadership crisis within the APC, which intensified in December 2025 when 30 out of 32 members of the state executive committee passed a vote of no confidence against him.

Eba rejected this removal, claiming it was unconstitutional and politically motivated, and sought legal protection from the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, which granted him an interim order against his removal. Despite this, the APC expelled him and initiated legal action against him.

Eba cited allegations of intimidation, political repression, and a lack of support from party leaders as reasons for his departure. He has expressed a commitment to help rebuild the PDP's structure across Cross River State, which includes 18 local government areas and 196 wards.
