Robert Mueller, Former FBI Director, Dies at 81

Robert Mueller, who served as the FBI director from September 11, 2001, until his retirement in 2013, died at the age of 81. His family announced his passing on a late Friday, but did not specify the cause or location.

Mueller is best known for leading the investigation into whether Donald Trump's presidential campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 election, a probe that began in 2017 and lasted two years. He testified before Congress in July 2019, where he faced intense questioning from lawmakers.

Despite his efforts, the Mueller Report did not exonerate Trump, leading to ongoing political debates. Mueller was also a decorated Marine, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam.

His reputation as a straight shooter earned him respect across party lines, and he was involved in high-profile prosecutions, including cases against mobster John Gotti and Manuel Noriega. His death prompted a controversial response from Trump on social media.
