Ex-IGP Usman Alkali Baba Enters Yobe Governorship Race

Usman Alkali Baba, the former Inspector General of Police, has declared his intention to run for the governorship of Yobe State in the 2027 elections. He submitted his nomination form in Abuja and expressed his desire to continue the improvements initiated by the current governor.

Baba rejected the idea of a consensus candidate within the APC, stating that he would not step down for anyone and that he had not participated in any consensus meetings. He emphasized the lack of a consensus arrangement and his commitment to addressing the state's challenges, particularly in security, education, agriculture, and health.

Baba highlighted that insecurity remains a significant obstacle to development and that his decision to run is driven by a passion for service and a sense of duty. He believes that without security, economic activities cannot effectively take place, and he aims to create employment opportunities for the youth in Yobe State.
