Mahmood Yakubu Begins Role as Nigeria's Ambassador to Qatar

Mahmood Yakubu, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has officially resumed his duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar. He arrived in Doha, where he was received by senior Qatari officials, including Ibrahim Abdullah Fakhro, the Director of the Protocol Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His arrival drew significant diplomatic attention, with 13 African ambassadors, including Thierno Sow of Guinea, present to welcome him. The reception included notable figures such as Philip Mshelbila, President of the Nigerian Diaspora Organization in Qatar, and Michael Ihekwaba.

During the reception, Yakubu exchanged greetings with several diplomats from various African countries, including Mali, Senegal, and Tanzania. Following the airport reception, he proceeded to the Nigerian Embassy in Doha, where he met with embassy staff as part of his formal assumption of office.
