Yakubu Takes Office as Nigeria's Ambassador to Qatar

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has arrived in Doha, Qatar, to take on his new role as Nigeria's ambassador. His arrival marks a significant diplomatic transition as he assumes duties that are expected to deepen Nigeria's relations with Qatar, particularly in the areas of energy investment and diaspora engagement.

Yakubu was received at Hamad International Airport by Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, the Director of the Protocol Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His appointment is part of a larger diplomatic initiative announced by President Bola Tinubu, which included 13 African ambassadors.

Yakubu's responsibilities will include attracting Qatari investments into Nigeria's energy infrastructure and enhancing consular services for Nigerian citizens in Qatar. He aims to develop structures to channel diaspora remittances to support domestic development and drive foreign direct investment in Nigeria.
