Lamido Critiques Pantami's 'Infidel Party' Remark on PDP

Sule Lamido, the former Governor of Jigawa State, has publicly criticized Isa Ali Pantami, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, for his past remarks describing the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as an "infidel party." Lamido made these comments while receiving the PDP governorship candidacy for Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Yobe, and Jigawa State residents in Bamaina, Jigawa State, on a Saturday. He reaffirmed his long-standing loyalty to the PDP, which he has repeatedly defended against political opponents, including labeling them as corrupt.

Despite Pantami's previous criticisms, Lamido noted that the PDP provided him opportunities to serve Nigeria, including two terms as Minister of Foreign Affairs and as Governor of Jigawa State. Lamido recalled that in the lead-up to the 2015 general elections, senior figures from the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former President Muhammadu Buhari and current President Bola Tinubu, urged him to abandon the PDP, but he chose to challenge them instead.

Pantami, who served as the chief imam at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University mosque, allegedly delivered sermons against the PDP, referring to it as an "infidel party." Following his failure to secure the APC governorship ticket in Gombe State, Pantami's political alignment has sparked widespread public debate, although he has not publicly responded to Lamido's latest comments.
