Ex-Lawmaker Supports Wike's Demolition of Waterway Structures

Sam Onuigbo, a former member of the House of Representatives and the newly elected President of Globe Legislators International, has expressed support for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, regarding the demolition of buildings obstructing waterways in Abuja. Onuigbo stated that protecting lives and public interest should take precedence over individual property rights.

The demolition began on Tuesday in Maitama, following Wike's inspection of flood-affected areas. The Federal Capital Territory Administration initiated this action to address illegal constructions that contribute to flooding, which Wike attributed to climate change, poor enforcement of building regulations, and waste disposal.

Onuigbo remarked that individuals who erect structures obstructing drainage should face consequences, reinforcing the need for the minister to act in the public interest. Wike has directed the FCT Department of Development Control to identify and remove such structures, ensuring that even high-profile properties are not exempt from demolition.
