Court to Rule on EFCC's Forfeiture Request for Mamman

Saleh Mamman's legal counsel, Femi Atteh, has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a fresh application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking the forfeiture of five additional properties allegedly linked to Mamman. Atteh argued that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application, as a judgment had already been delivered in Mamman's criminal trial, where he was convicted and sentenced to 75 years in prison for money laundering.

The EFCC's motion for forfeiture was filed on May 25, and Atteh confirmed receipt of the application, stating that the properties in question belong to a company not involved in the criminal proceedings. EFCC counsel Abba Muham contended that the court retains jurisdiction to determine forfeiture applications despite the conviction.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the matter until July 2, allowing Atteh to address an affidavit filed on May 22. The court also dealt with an apology from Atteh regarding a previous affidavit that was struck out due to the absence of his co-counsel.
