Ex-Oyo First Lady Critiques N300 Feeding Allowance

Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, the former First Lady of Oyo State, expressed her concerns regarding the N300 daily feeding allowance for visually impaired students, deeming it grossly inadequate. This statement was made during her visit to the Nigeria Train Centre for the Blind at a special basic school in Ogbomoso on Wednesday.

She highlighted the urgent need for the government to review the feeding allowance, which does not reflect the rising food costs in the country. Alao-Akala emphasized that the current allocation does not encourage proper nutrition for students.

During her visit, she donated various items, including uniforms and hygiene products, to support the students. She also reiterated her commitment to vocational training support, fulfilling promises made during previous engagements.

The headmistress of the school, Oyedokun Janet Olabimp, urged parents to stop hiding children with disabilities and instead enroll them in special schools for proper care and education. Ogunlek Simeon, a special education advocate, stressed the importance of early enrollment for children with special needs.
