Former Nigerian President Shehu Shagari's Wife Passes Away at 89

Hajiya Sutura Shehu Shagari, the last surviving wife of former Nigerian President Shehu Shagari, died at the age of 89 after a prolonged illness. She was praised for her character and impact by the Shagari family.

Shehu Shagari, Nigeria's first democratically elected executive president, served from 1979 to 1983 under the platform of the National Party of Nigeria. His presidency focused on areas like agriculture, education, and industrialization, including the famous Green Revolution program.

Shagari's time in office was cut short by a military coup on December 31, 1983, led by Major General Muhammadu Buhari.
