Marafa Defects to NDC from ADC Amid Legal Uncertainties

Former Senator Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central from 2011 to 2019, has switched his political allegiance from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) just three weeks after joining the ADC on April 8, 2026. Marafa's decision to leave the ADC, which he joined in August 2025 after departing from the Progress Congress, stems from ongoing court cases affecting the ADC, creating uncertainty about the party's stability ahead of major elections.

He expressed concerns that without a strong political platform, it would be challenging to contest in upcoming elections. Marafa's move was welcomed by NDC leaders, including former Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson and party chairman Mose Cleopa, who described his entry as a boost for the party, particularly in the Zamfara and wider Northwest region.

The NDC aims to provide an inclusive platform for youth, women, and persons with disabilities as they prepare for the next electoral cycle.
