Former Niger State SUBEB Chairman Remains in Captivity Despite Ransom Payment

Alhaji Alhassan Bawa Niworo, the former chairman of Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), is still held captive after his family raised N30 million through a bank loan and contributions from friends and relatives to meet the ransom demands of the kidnappers. The 70-year-old was abducted alongside another individual on September 29, 2025, while traveling on the New Bussa-Mokwa road.

Despite the family's financial strain and appeals for help from the Niger State government, the victim remains in captivity. The Niger State Police Command, led by spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, is engaged in joint operations to secure the release of the victims.
