Tinubu Dismisses Wale Edun as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Wale Edun from his role as Finance Minister, a position he held since August 2023. Edun's dismissal follows increasing tensions related to the government's handling of capital budget releases, which faced widespread criticism from lawmakers.

Complaints included a record of zero implementation of the 2025 capital budget, despite an approved request of ₦1.15 trillion. Edun defended his record by stating that the government had ceased unsustainable practices of printing money to pay contractors, focusing instead on debt servicing.

However, dissatisfaction within the presidential economic team led to Edun's removal. Following this reshuffle, Taiwo Oyeleke has been appointed as the new Minister of State for Finance.

The situation escalated during a Federal Executive Council meeting on December 10, 2025, where tensions between Edun and the President became apparent, ultimately leading to Edun's exit from the cabinet.
