Tinubu Dismisses Wale Edun as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dismissed Wale Edun from his position as Minister of Finance Coordinator on a Tuesday, following a minor cabinet reshuffle approved by the Federal Executive Council. This decision comes amid growing tensions between Tinubu and Edun, attributed to dissatisfaction with low capital budget releases and delays in budget implementation, which disrupted Nigeria's fiscal cycle.

Federal lawmakers accused Edun of zero implementation of the 2025 capital budget despite an approved expenditure of 1.15 trillion naira. Opposition members threatened to move for Edun's removal due to complaints about unpaid contractor funds.

Edun had maintained that the government should avoid unsustainable practices, such as printing money to fund projects. The relationship between Tinubu and Edun further deteriorated after a heated exchange during a Federal Executive Council meeting on December 10, 2025.

Following this incident, Edun attempted to mend relations by visiting Lagos but reportedly failed. Taiwo Oyeleke has been appointed as the new Minister of State for Finance.
