Nigerian Universities Urged to Enhance Grant Acquisition

On Tuesday, a workshop themed "Unlock Global Fund Resource Mobilization and International Grantsmanship" was held at the CVCNU secretariat in Abuja, organized by the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU). Professor Andrew Haruna emphasized the need for universities to look beyond traditional funding sources, as they heavily depend on government allocations.

He noted that despite the growing opportunities for international grants, many universities have not fully explored alternative funding strategies. The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge on resource mobilization and improve grantsmanship practices.

Ken Oguzi, Managing Director of Optim Delivery Solutions Project Corporate Services Limited, called for a strategic shift in universities' approach to grant acquisition, stressing the importance of aligning research efforts with global priorities while reflecting local perspectives. The workshop also highlighted the significance of collaboration among universities to secure funding and improve their visibility in the global research landscape.
