Experts Launch Anti-Ethnic Profiling Toolkit in Nigeria

On Wednesday, a validation meeting for an anti-ethnic profiling toolkit was held at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in Abuja. This initiative, a collaborative effort involving Beacon Security Intelligence Limited (BSIL), Wiser Partnership, and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), aims to tackle ethnic profiling and stereotypes in security communication and media reporting.

Gerald Okafor, representing the initiative, emphasized the importance of the toolkit in promoting peace and security responses in Nigeria. The project was developed through extensive consultations and aims to provide practical guidance for media practitioners and security stakeholders.

Brigadier General Saleh Bala noted that the toolkit is a significant milestone in addressing issues of ethnic profiling, which can exacerbate tensions and mistrust within communities. The initiative is supported by the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) and reflects a commitment to fostering peace and sustainable development in Nigeria.
