Explorationists Push for Systematic Oil Drilling Management

The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) is urging oil and gas operators in the country to adopt a systematic industry-wide approach to manage geological non-productive time (GNPT) in order to cut drilling costs and improve safety. This call was made during NAPE's monthly technical session in Lagos, themed "Unlocking Drilling: Systematic Management of Geological Non-Productive Time." Dr.

Johnbosco Azubuik emphasized that addressing GNPT separately from drilling delays could save operators millions of dollars. He explained that systematic GNPT management involves identifying, measuring, tracking, and analyzing geological events to understand their cost impact and help set performance metrics.

NAPE President Mr. Olajumok Ajayi highlighted the inadequacy of subsurface data, which leads to costly drilling failures.

He stressed the urgent need for improved drilling efficiency and better geological planning. The association's upcoming 44th annual conference will further explore these themes.
